How to install your China eSIM
Six short steps, the same for every plan. Do them in order, on Wi-Fi, before you travel.
Before you start
- Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.
- iPhone: Settings → General → About, and look for an EID. Android: dial *#06# and look for an EID. No EID usually means no eSIM.
- You need Wi-Fi while you install: the phone downloads the eSIM over the internet.
- One eSIM installs on one device and cannot be moved to another phone afterwards.
- It is data only. Keep your home SIM for calls and messages.
iPhone
- First, delete every old eSIM you no longer use: Settings → Cellular → tap the plan → Delete eSIM. A deleted eSIM cannot be restored, so keep any you still need.
- Tap Install. iOS opens the eSIM setup.
- When the phone asks for a label, type “China eSIM” so you can tell this line apart from your others.
- Set Cellular Data to China eSIM. Keep your home line for calls and messages.
- Settings → Cellular → China eSIM → turn Data Roaming ON. This is required.
- It connects when you land in China. Check that Data Roaming is still on.
Android
- First, delete every old eSIM you no longer use: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → tap the eSIM → Delete. A deleted eSIM cannot be restored, so keep any you still need.
- Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (the path differs by phone). Scan the QR code from another screen, or choose “enter code manually”.
- When the phone asks for a name, type “China eSIM” so you can tell this line apart from your others.
- Set Mobile data to China eSIM. Keep your home line for calls and messages.
- Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → China eSIM → turn Roaming ON. This is required.
- It connects when you land in China. Check that Roaming is still on.
!Data Roaming must be ON, or this eSIM will not connect in China.
iConnect to Wi-Fi before you install and stay on it until the setup finishes: the phone downloads the eSIM over the internet.
If it does not connect in China
- Check that Data Roaming is on for the China eSIM, and that Cellular Data (Mobile data) is set to the China eSIM.
- Turn Airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off. Restart the phone if it still does not connect.
- Make sure the eSIM line itself is switched on in your phone's settings.
- Still stuck? Write to the assistant in the bot and ask for a person. Tell us your phone model.
